To start tracking visitors with LeadJourney, you first need to create your own custom tracking domain.
Once set up, you’ll automatically receive your personal LeadJourney Tracking Script, which you can embed on your website to enable full-funnel tracking.
This setup is the foundation for accurate lead attribution, offline conversion tracking, and performance optimization — even in privacy-restricted environments.
✅ Step-by-Step: Create Your Tracking Domain & Get Your Script
Step 1: Log in to your LeadJourney account
Step 2: Go to your settings
Click the ⚙️ gear icon in the top-right corner, or head directly to:
Step 3: Switch to the “Tracking Domain” tab
Step 4: Click "Create new domain"
Click at the button "Create new domain" to start the configuration.
💡 We recommend using a short subdomain, like t.yourdomain.com
— it’s faster to load and less likely to be blocked.
📡 Step 4: Add a CNAME Record to Your DNS Settings
To link your tracking domain, you’ll need to add a CNAME record in your domain’s DNS settings.
This process connects your custom subdomain (like t.yourdomain.com
) to LeadJourney’s tracking infrastructure.
General Steps:
Log in to your domain provider account
(e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Cloudflare)Go to DNS Management
Look for “DNS Settings” or “DNS Management” in your domain’s dashboard.Add a new CNAME record
Use the following values:Type:
CNAME
Name: Your chosen subdomain (e.g.,
t
)Target:
package.leadjourney.io
Proxy Status: Turn OFF (no proxying!)
TTL: Default or automatic
Click “Save” to apply changes.
📌 If you're using Cloudflare (recommended):
Go to your domain → DNS tab
Click “Add Record” → Choose
CNAME
Fill in:
Name:
t
Target:
package.leadjourney.io
Proxy status: DNS only (disable the orange cloud)
Click “Save”
⏳ Important Note: DNS propagation
Changes can take up to 24 hours to fully propagate. If you don’t see data flowing immediately in your LeadJourney logs, give it some time and test again later.
📄 Step 5: Copy Your Tracking Script
After clicked inside your LeadJourney Dashboard "Create" , LeadJourney will generate your personal script right in the dashboard. It will look something like this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://tt.yourdomain.com/package/latest/your-workspace-id/"></script>
This script is unique to your setup and should be placed in the header of your website to enable visitor tracking.

💡 Why Using Your Own Tracking Domain Matters
Using a custom subdomain like t.yourdomain.com
is essential for reliable tracking and brings major benefits:
✅ 1. Bypasses Ad Blockers & Tracking Restrictions
Browsers and extensions often block known third-party trackers. A custom domain looks native to your site — so it’s less likely to be blocked.
✅ 2. First-party, privacy-compliant tracking
LeadJourney uses server-side, first-party cookies, which work even if the user declines tracking cookies.
✅ 3. Improved trust and accuracy
Ad platforms like Meta and Google trust conversion data more when it comes from verified, first-party sources — helping you optimize campaigns better.
🎯 Summary
Setting up your tracking domain is the first step toward unlocking:
✅ 100% visitor tracking (even with cookies declined)
✅ Offline conversion attribution
✅ Smarter ad performance optimization
Once your domain is connected, your LeadJourney script is ready — and your data-driven marketing journey begins.
