The LeadJourney Tracking Script is a powerful tool embedded on your website to collect detailed user information and track user interactions. This script is essential for gathering accurate data about visitors and their behaviors, which is then stored securely in the LeadJourney database.
What Does the LeadJourney Tracking Script Do?
1. Captures User Data
The script tracks user interactions, such as clicks and page visits, and associates them with a unique Click ID (clickid). This enables LeadJourney to identify users across multiple sessions.
2. Collects Detailed User Information
The following data points are captured:
clickid: A unique identifier for each user.
click time: The timestamp when the click occurred.
traffic channel: Captured via URL parameters (e.g.,
lj_channel
).domain: The domain where the click occurred
isp: Internet Service Provider (e.g., Swisscom).
ip: User's IP address.
connection type: Type of internet connection (e.g., Cable/DSL).
country: User’s country (e.g., Germany).
city: User’s city (e.g., Frankfurt).
os: User’s operating system (e.g., iOS).
browser: User’s browser (e.g., Chrome).
device: User’s device type (e.g., DevicePhone).
user agent: Technical details of the user’s device and browser (e.g.,
Mozilla/5.0
).ref_id: Referrer IDs like GCLID, WCLID, or FBCLID.
campaign, ad_group, ad: Captured via URL parameters for campaign tracking.
keyword: Search keywords from URL parameters.
placement: Ad placement details from URL parameters.
search engine: Identifies organic search engines (e.g., Google, Bing, Yahoo).
How Does It Work?
The tracking script generates a unique Click ID for each user, capturing all relevant data during their sessions. It can recognize users across multiple sessions.
For example, if a user clicks on a Facebook ad but doesn’t convert, and later returns through a Google ad and converts, LeadJourney can link the interactions. It identifies that the first click came from Facebook and the last click from Google, providing a clear picture of the customer journey.
We also provide cross-device tracking. For instance, if someone views your ad on their phone and clicks on it but later converts on their computer, LeadJourney can track the same user. By using the IP address to match sessions across devices, we ensure a seamless understanding of the customer journey.
Here’s what the script looks like:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://your.trackingdomain.com/package/stage/your-workspace-id/"></script>
Embed this script in your website's <head>
section to activate tracking.
Important: You’ll find the LeadJourney Tracking Script in your dashboard after adding a custom tracking domain. The script provided above contains placeholders—you must replace them with your specific tracking domain and workspace ID to ensure proper functionality.
Why Is It Important?
The LeadJourney Tracking Script ensures you have detailed, accurate data about your website visitors. This data is the foundation for advanced reporting, performance analysis, and campaign optimization.
By collecting user details and traffic metrics, the script allows you to make data-driven decisions to improve your marketing efforts and achieve better ROI.
