10.7 Why LeadJourney Uses Click IDs Instead of Personal Data

At LeadJourney, we’ve built a tracking system that puts GDPR compliance and data privacy first — without sacrificing performance.

Unlike most tracking tools (especially from the U.S.) that collect and transmit personal data like names, emails, or phone numbers — often without consent — LeadJourney uses a privacy-friendly approach based on anonymous Click IDs.

✅ What We Track — and What We Don’t

To ensure reliable attribution while respecting user privacy:

We track and store:

  • Anonymous Click IDs

  • Technical metadata such as IP addresses (as permitted under GDPR)

We do NOT track or store:

  • Names

  • Email addresses

  • Phone numbers

  • Any other personal identifiers

This makes LeadJourney a legally safe and privacy-first solution — especially for companies that handle sensitive customer data.

🧠 Why Most Tools Are Risky (and Often Illegal)

Many traditional tools (especially outside the EU):

  • Still capture names, emails, or phone numbers even when users decline cookies

  • Transmit that personal data to Meta, Google, or other platforms

  • Operate in clear violation of GDPR and ePrivacy guidelines

This exposes businesses to legal risks, compliance violations, and reputational damage.

✅ How LeadJourney Solves This with Click IDs

We assign each website visitor a random Click ID, such as:

lj-d3751853-8de7-4ecd-990f-c6cc7d7b81bd

This Click ID is stored:

  • In a hidden form field on your website

  • Inside your CRM alongside each lead

  • And matched later to conversion events (e.g., sales, calls, deals)

🔒 It contains zero personal data, but still enables full-funnel tracking and offline conversion syncing.

🔍 For Clients with Sensitive Data

Many of our clients operate in industries with highly sensitive customer data (e.g., legal, medical, financial).

LeadJourney’s privacy-first architecture ensures:

  • No personal data is ever stored or processed inside our system

  • We never transmit identifying information to ad platforms

However, because every Click ID belongs to a real lead, you can use filters inside your CRM to reveal which contact submitted a specific Click ID — if needed.

🧠 This gives you control and transparency without compromising compliance on the tracking layer.

🔄 Why This Matters

Traditional Tools

LeadJourney Approach

Track name/email without consent

Use anonymous Click IDs only

Transmit PII to Meta/Google

Send conversion data without PII

Risk of GDPR fines & reputational harm

Built for full GDPR compliance

Fail when cookies are declined

Work even without cookie consent
